Thank you for contacting me.

From Russia with Doubt

When Ron Pollard first invited me to a bank vault in the suburbs of Denver where he kept dozens of Russian Avant-Garde paintings that he and his brother had acquired from a man they met over eBay, I have to admit, I thought he was dupe. Four years later, after exhibiting that collection of questionable paintings at my museum, I sometimes wonder if I’m not the dupe.

I certainly wonder if I lost all credibility with my fellow museum directors for baldly displaying art that so clearly did not meet even the lowest threshold of legitimacy in the field.

And all I can rely upon for reassurance is that, to my eyes, the walls at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver had never looked so beautiful.

Here is how the story unfolded.
